DMRC ( Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) has already done a primary survey on the project feasibility of Indore Metro and has stated that it will be possible to have Metro railway in Indore by 2019. The cost of DPR prepared by DMRC was shared in the ratio of 20:80 by the State Government and the Central Government respectively. Three corridors have been proposed for Indore Metro namely Green, Red and Blue corridors.

Already MOA (memorandum of agreement) has been signed between the government and a joint venture firm LRTC, a German firm and Rohit Associates Architects & Engineers Pvt Ltd of Mumbai for preparing the DPR.

Need for Indore Metro:

Population across India is increasing and Indore City is no exception. Though Indore has very good system of public transport that includes buses, taxis, auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaw, they are not able to cater to the huge demand of smooth and quick transport system within the City. With the rise in population, number of private cars has increased in Indore City.

There are companies that are offering affordable cars and people have become much more affluent in last few years. Automobiles have increased but roads have not increased accordingly leading to traffic congestion within Indore City as well as in the surrounding areas. People find it difficult to reach their destination in time. To ensure they reach their workplaces, schools, colleges, home and other desired destination, people need to keep lots of buffer time which is sheer wastage.

With the proposed Indore Metro, not only the Indorites are going to be benefitted but people who come here from outside cities for official work, business or simply for leisure vacation would be able to accomplish works fast as they could now reach from one place to the other without any traffic congestion.

Future Benefits of Indore Metro:

Metro in Indore City is surely going to benefit the city in number of ways. It would provide rapid transportation, reduction in numbers of road accidents within the city and would reduce pollution.

When full-fledged Metro services within the city will start, more and more people would use it and usage of other modes of transport would be less thereby petrol and diesel saving will happen.
Indore City will also get better business and commercial activities and will grow at rapid speed when the dream Metro project of the city comes true.

Proposed Plan and Routes for Indore Metro:

As per the Indore Metro proposal submitted to the Madhya Pradesh government, the Metro route will get divided into three corridors spread in all areas of the city. With the metro services, speed of Indore City is supposed to increase by seven times. Buses in Indore City carry about 3000 commuters per hour but Metro will be able to carry more than 21,000 commuters in an hour. The three proposed corridors of Indore Metro are:

Red Corridor (Northeast to South)

This metro service will be between Niranjanpur and Rajendra and will include nine stations in between. This corridor will run parallel to the well known road of Indore City, A.B. Road. The total distance covered in this route is about 15 km.

Green Corridor (East to West)

This service will run between Khajrana and Nainod and will include eight stations. The total distance covered will be about 12-13 km. People residing in the eastern parts of Indore City could use this route to reach airport within the minimum time span.

Blue Corridor (Northwest to South)

This route will connect most of the areas of western part of Indore City and will have 10 stations included in the route. The total distance covered will be about 17 km.
