Indore being the largest city of Madhya Pradesh is also a commercial hub of Central India. It is strategically situated on the Malwa Plateau at a distance of 190 km from the capital city Bhopal. This urban metropolis has an extensive history dating back to 16th century when it was under the reigns of Maratha Empire who made it the trade center for Deccan and Delhi.

National Highway 3:
It is also known as NH 3 or Agra Mumbai Highway. This highway called AB Road, passes through the city of Indore as a four lane road. It is one of the main highways in the country connecting 4 major states viz Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.It commences from Agra, Uttar Pradesh and before passing through Indore, touches other cities of state including Morena, Gwalior, Guna, Shivpuri, Maksi, and Dewas.
After Indore, it enters the state of Maharashtra till its end in Mumbai. In total, this highway covers a stretch of 1190 km. In fact, the stretch from Dewas to Indore has been constructed as six lane road and from Indore to Mumbai, it is a four lane road passing from prominent Maharashtra cities like Dhule, Nasik, and Thane.
National Highway 59:
National Highway 59 or NH 59 is also one of the longest highways in India connecting the states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Originating from Ahmedabad in Gujarat, it passes through Indore and links it to the rest of Madhya Pradesh. From Indore, it reaches out to Raipur in Chhattisgarh till its final destination at Gopalpur in Odisha state.State wise distance covered by this long national highway is 221 km in Gujarat, 129 km of Madhya Pradesh, and the longest 438 km in Odisha. It stretches over a total distance of 1735.5 km. Before passing through Indore, it covers other areas of state like Jhabua, Rama, Rajgarh, Sardarpur, Bandheri, Dhar, Ghat Bilod, Betma, and Machal.
National Highway 59A:
This NH 59A connects Indore city to Betul of Madhya Pradesh. Spanning over a distance of 264 km, this National Highway begins from Navlakha junction of NH 3 in Indore and en route passes by Anand Nagar and Palda localities within this city. Apart from Indore, its route comprises of places including Chapda, Nemawar, Harda, Timarni, Chicholi, and Betul.Apart from these prominent national highways, two major state highways also pass through the city of Indore. The entire state of Madhya Pradesh has an overall length of 8728 km in form of various state highways connecting the state within and with other neighboring states. Out of these, Indore has State highway no. 27 and 31.

State Highway 27:
This highway covers a span of 386.6 km from Jhalawad in Rajasthan to Malkapur in Maharashtra state. On its route, it passes through the prominent cities like Ujjain and Indore in Madhya Pradesh. It primarily connects Indore to state of Rajasthan and is a well laid out highway. The part of this state highway in MP comes under the control of Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation Ltd. and it is managed by this corporation.State Highway 31:
This state highway does not primarily run though the city but is located in close proximity to Indore Airport which is a landmark on this road. It is a 402.5 km long highway that passes through the nearby districts like Ujjain and Ratlam. On this belt, an industrial corridor is also proposed which will enhance development on the entire stretch of state highway 31.
