Indore Administration

Indore City is the administrative headquarters of Indore district of Madhya Pradesh (MP). Out of 50 districts of MP, Indore district is the most populated district of the state according to the data of the year 2011. Indore city is the administrative center and also famous as the premier city of the district.

Madhya Pradesh has followed a unicameral legislature, which comprises of 27 constituencies. The districts of the state are grouped in eight divisions namely Indore, Bhopal, Sagar, Chambal, Rewa, Gwalior, Ujjain and Jabalpur.

Civic Administration Of Indore

The administration of Indore consists of two tiers, a local tier and another commonly known as a wide city. Most of the areas and regions enveloped by the city are administered by IDA or the Indore development authority. It works as an acme body for planning as well as co-ordination of all the development activities taking place for Indore, especially the Metropolitan Region known as Indore Metropolitan Region which comprises of Indore and its cluster areas covering a large portion of the city.

The IDA consists of two appointed constituents: the district collector who has all the executive powers and the IDA Board which has a chairman appointed by state government, Municipal Commissioner of Indore and five members from:
  • Town and Country department of planning
  • Public Health Engineering
  • Public Works Department
  • Forest Department & MP Electricity Board
They closely analyse the collector's decisions and can agree or disagree, in fact can accept or reject his budget proposals every year. Race course road in Indore is the headquarters of the IDA.
